Southwest (SW) Portland Neighborhoods
Hillsdale in Multnomah County - is just south of the West Hills and west of I-5 and is a quick 10 minute jaunt to downtown Portland. Generally hilly homes range from the small bungalows built in the 30´s to larger 60´s and 70´s one level homes, some with daylight basements on larger lots ranging from 7K-15K. Due to Hillsdale´s close proximity to downtown home prices are higher than in the suburbs, but it offers a little urban and a little suburban. A small old town area has a natural foods store, a few shops, coffee shops and restaurants. With hillside homes on the west, the Willamette River and Willamette Park to the east, Johns Landing is also home to the Water Tower at Johns Landing a warehouse style small retail center with shops and restaurants. Homes in the hills and the flat area before the river are generally turn of the century to 40´s homes and along the river are condos and office buildings built in the 80´s. Properties here are higher than the suburbs because of the river views, the close proximity to downtown Portland and the convenient shopping. Riverdale and Dunthorpe homes are set back and treed so they tend to be very private on huge river front lots, where some of the largest homes in Portland are located and are as expensive Lake Oswego´s lakeside homes. Located on the northwest end of Riverdale is Lewis and Clark College a private college with baccalaureate studies in the arts, humanities, and sciences, and graduate and professional studies in education, counseling, and law. Burlingame tends to be hilly with homes from turn of the century to the 60´s on medium sized lots of 5K-9K. While the homes are not fancy since they are so close to downtown on the west side of the river they can be expensive. House styles tend to be Cape Cod, ranch and bungalow. Burlingame has a small commercial area with a couple of shops and restaurants. Close proximity to downtown keeps these home values up there. The neighborhood park is Burlingame Park and just south of Burlingame is Tyron Creek State Park. Most are ranch homes built in the 50´s 60´s and 70´s with a few fill in neighborhoods of 2 story traditionals built in the 80´s 90´s and a few in the 2000´s. As with most Portland cities the majority of homes built after the mid 80´s are two or more levels on smaller lots, the newer the home the smaller the lot. The older homes are on medium large lots of 9K-15k with the lots downsizing the newer the home built on it. Considering how close it is to downtown Portland the homes are very reasonable. Most homes are of the 50´s and 60´s era on good sized lots 10K-15K, with lots of big trees. Due to the size of the lots and the proximity to downtown the homes here are less expensive than those closer to downtown, but more than it´s neighbor Beaverton. Raleigh Hills has a thriving commercial district running along Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy with numerous grocery stores, drug stores, medical offices, commercial offices and various other shops and restaurants. Raleigh Hills has a swim center, Raleighwood Park, Portland Golf Club, Bauman Park, and Pendleton Park. Multnomah´s claim to fame is it´s small bohemian village area, Gabriel Park, Woods Memorial Park and Custer Hill Park. Since it is close to downtown and offers a unique shopping area, it is popular with locals who want to walk or bike to shops and dining close to home, so the property is more expensive than the suburbs. You will find craftsman, Cape Cod, ranch, older traditional 2 story homes and a few condos built mainly anywhere from the early 1900´s to the 70´s along with new condos built in the last couple of years.
