Northwest (NW) Portland Neighborhoods
West Hills in Multnomah County - located on the west side of downtown and with Washington Park as it´s crown jewel housing the Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, Portland International Rose Test Garden, The Japanese Garden, Vietnam Veterans memorial Park and World Forestry Center. It is also home to 5,155.75 acres of Forest Park the largest urban park of it´s kind, with hiking, biking and equestrian trails. My personal favorite is Council Crest Park which sits on top of the west hills so you can see Portland from every vantage point, take in the area´s 5 great mountains, Mt Hood, Mt St Helens, Mt Rainier, Mt Jefferson and Mt Adams on a clear day and just relax. Classic estate homes of various generations, and every style from contemporary to colonial, starting on city sized lots with most on large lots and all within a very short jaunt to downtown; makes for one of the most coveted and expensive neighborhoods in Portland. Goose Hollow in Multnomah County - is located at the base of the west hills on the western end of downtown. Most homes are on city sized lots of 4K-5K mostly older mid sized turn of the century homes with a few homes of various other eras sprinkled in and with all close in property it is high. A few neighborhood coffee shops and other small business are housed in some of the older homes among the hills of Goose Hollow. Nob Hill (NW 21st 23rd Avenues) in Multnomah County - is located on the NW quadrant of downtown. In demand and popular upscale bohemian is the best way to describe this neighborhood of numerous restaurants, boutiques and top shelf shopping. This trendy area houses some of the most expensive real estate in Portland with turn of the century mansions, Victorians, craftsman and Old Portland style homes, with a few 30´s & 40´s era apartments and condo conversions sprinkled on top. This is an area where you definitely buy into a lifestyle with expensive homes on tree lined streets. The commercial venues bring in lots of people so parking and privacy are at a premium here. Elementary school: Chapman Middle school: West Sylvan High school: Lincoln http://www.portlandneighborhood.com/nobhill.html http://www.citytowninfo.com/places/oregon/portland http://www.portlandonline.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland,_Oregon http://www.portland.worldweb.com/ http://portland.citysearch.com/?brand=smx_tlp http://www.travelportland.com/ http://www.gonorthwest.com/Oregon/Portland/Portland.htm http://www.wunderground.com/US/OR/Portland.html http://www.portland.com/portland/index.cfm Forest Heights in Multnomah County - is just south of Forest Park between the downtown west hills and Cedar Mill. Forest Heights is home to incredible executive view homes built in 1990 to 2007+ with 1/3 of the neighborhood as common space there are plenty of natural areas to enjoy; a large park with walking trails, plus and ravines too steep to build on but beautiful to behold. As with most Portland cities the majority of homes built after the mid 80´s are two or more levels on smaller lots, the newer the home the smaller the lot. Forest Heights has their own elementary school (Forest Park Elementary) and a new little Alpine style shopping center with what else, but Starbucks. Forest Heights even has their own bus system to take people downtown and to special events. There are few nice townhouse projects interspersed along the main road through the neighborhood to give it a well rounded feel. Property is a little more affordable than downtown, but more expensive than the suburbs. Forest Heights has been home to the Street of Dreams home show where builders compete against each other to come up with the best a showcase home. You will find newer executive homes on 3K ? 9K lots, on average, built from the 1990´s to 2007+, as well as a few 50´s, 60´s and 70´s homes in older neighborhoods on 7K-10K lots and a few on acreage tucked in around the newer development. As with most Portland cities the majority of homes built after the mid 80´s are two or more levels on smaller lots, the newer the home the smaller the lot. Being in close proximity to Forest Heights the property values for homes here run higher than regular suburban developments, but are not extravagant considering the area. The neighborhood parks are Bonny Slope Park, Terra Linda, Lost Park and Jordan Park. Consisting mainly of ranch style homes with those homes located on a hill having a daylight walk out basement, these homes sit on nice sized lots of 7K-10K. Homes here were generally built starting in the late 40´s through the early 70´s and start as small as 900 sq. ft and go all the way up to 3000 sq. ft. The homes can be a tad more expensive than some other suburbs. The neighborhood park is Foothills Park with it´s own lake. Most homes here were built in the late 80´s through 2007+ and are on regular sized lots of 5K-7K and priced a just a tad above average. The home styles are traditional 2 story with a few newer ranch styled homes thrown in. As with most Portland cities the majority of homes built after the mid 80´s are two or more levels on smaller lots, the newer the home the smaller the lot. A few newer condo and townhome developments are located near the Bethany Village Shopping Center which has a grocery store, drug store, gift shops, restaurants, medical and business offices. Bethany is also home to Claremont Golf Course with a high end senior neighborhood around it of the same name. The neighborhood parks are West Union Estates Park, Bethany Meadows Park, Park Manresa and Arbor Ridge Park. Rock Creek & Tanasbourne in Washington County - is west of Bethany, north of Hwy 26 and the Tanasbourne Shopping Center and The Shops of Tanasbourne approximately 20-25 minutes to downtown Portland. Tanasbourne has a 16 screen movie plex, major and fast food restaurants and all the major retailers spread over about 10 square blocks. Rock Creek is also a favorite of high tech employees due to it´s close proximity to the Silicon Forest, but still reasonable. Most homes were built in the 70´s with a few 90´s homes built around the Rock Creek Country Club and the Rock Creek North Soccer Filed Park. As with most Portland cities the majority of homes built after the mid 80´s are two or more levels on smaller lots. The homes are 2-story traditional, tri-level, ranch and split entry on 5K-9K lots.
