Central Portland
Downtown in Multnomah County - The "Hub" of the city, downtown is always full of activity. Urban sprawl has been contained by the Urban Growth Boundary keeping downtown vibrant and alive. Walk the numerous streets lined with stores of every kind; spend the day perusing every kind of book you can imagine at Powells Bookstore encompassing a full city block; visit the down town park located on the Park Blocks which runs from the NW end of downtown to the SW end of downtown; visit Pioneer Courthouse Square and it´s namesake downtown mall; go to the theatre, symphony, opera, ballet and downtown restaurants from quaint to top shelf; attend a fully accredited 4 year university located in downtown, Portland State University; shop the local artist´s wares at the Saturday Market; relax by one of the many fountains or walk along Riverfront Park. Apartments, condos, a few lofts and co-ops are the living options here and as in all cities some of the most expensive per square foot real estate you´ll find, but worth it if you want to live the urban dream.
The Pearl District in Multnomah County - is downtown´s latest urban blend of chic residential and commercial ventures being copied in cities across the U.S. Located in what used to be the warehouse district of downtown, it´s now home to some of the most unique and hip loft living and since it is downtown it has a high dollar per square foot cost associated with it, but people who live here are buying a lifestyle. New high rise buildings sporting city lofts have been built with many more to come filling the area with local hip urbanites. The shops are upscale retail, offering boutiques, antique and home interior stores, art galleries, restaurants and coffee shops.
South Waterfront in Multnomah County - 38 acres of what used to be decaying industrial land at the south end of downtown and at the end of Riverfront Park along the Willamette River, the River Blocks, are home to high rise condos, restaurants, hotels and office space and all being built "green" in true Oregonian style. As with all close in downtown real estate it is more dollar per square foot than many other places in the metro area, but you are buying into a lifestyle here as well. The latest addition is a high tech tram that transports Oregon Health Sciences University staff from their administrative offices up to the hospitals located on "Pill Hill" above the city.
Lloyd Center in Multnomah County - is located just across the river from downtown and is home to the Rose Quarter housing the Portland Trailblazers´ Rose Garden arena, Oregon Convention Center, high rise office space and Lloyd Center Mall. Here you will find a few older homes, apartments and condo conversions at alittle less than downtown property.
